‘Who will She Be?’ Original post-impressionist painting by Nancy Okang

Original price was: ₵28,630.00.Current price is: ₵2,250.00.

‘Who Will She Be?’  is the question that hangs over the heads of young girls in the coastal town of Ningo, Ghana. In their community, there is often no boundary between their childhood and adulthood, they are often hard-launched into adult life before they are fully aware of the power they hold in their bodies. This painting captures a moment in a a schoolyard break period where they can be curious and playful.

‘Who Will She Be?’ asks a question I carry with me as a volunteer Bible educator in Ghana — what future awaits the young girls I work with, growing up where girlhood and adulthood so often blur? Set in a public school in Ningo, a coastal Ghanaian town, this acrylic painting captures girls simply being girls — gathered beneath vast neem trees, unhurried, alive with possibility.

I chose acrylics for their boldness and texture; the thick, rhythmic brushwork mirrors the energy and complexity of these young lives. A close-up is included so you can feel the surface — this painting has real physical presence.

My hope is that viewers sit with the question rather than rush past it. These girls have access to free public schooling, yet chance, circumstance, and community pressure still shape their futures. I want collectors to see them — truly seen, not pitied. 35 inches by 35 inches, acrylic on canvas, ships from Ghana.
