From the collection: Transitions in Time – Twilight Journey through Ningo
You Are the Salt of the Earth is both a portrait and a prayer — a celebration of endurance, purpose, and transformation. Set in the real salt fields of Ningo, this piece bridges my work as a volunteer educator with the countless sacrifices that have shaped and uplifted lives over time.
In this painting, I stand alongside my mentee and family, surrounded by the very fields that sustain the Dangme community — a landscape of labor, heritage, and hope. The title draws from both the physical and the spiritual: salt as a source of livelihood, and salt as the ancient symbol of preservation and value.
Created with acrylic paint, harvested salt, and preserved under layers of epoxy resin, the artwork holds a living memory — the salt, taken from the same location, sealed forever against time’s decay. It is a gesture of gratitude and reverence — for those who give of themselves quietly, preserving the lives and dreams of others, one grain at a time.
